Programme Overview

On February 10, 2026, the Department of Physical Education at KR College organized an insightful industrial visit to Decathlon Madurai and the District Sports Office, Madurai. The program was designed to provide students with essential practical exposure to the sports industry and infrastructure management.

1. Interaction with District Sports Officer

The students had the privilege of meeting Mr. Raja, the District Sports Officer. His session focused on the foundational pillars of athletic administration:

  • Sports Characteristics: Insights into the evolving nature of competitive sports.
  • Professional Roles: A deep dive into the vital responsibilities of Physical Education teachers in schools and colleges.
  • Practical Learning: The significance of field visits in bridging the gap between theory and ground reality.

2. Facility Tour & Technical Exposure

Under special permission, students explored the world-class facilities at the District Sports Office, gaining firsthand knowledge of international marking standards and maintenance for:

  • Tracks: 400m Synthetic Track and specialized areas for all track and field events.
  • Indoor Courts: Badminton Indoor Court and Kabaddi Mat Court.
  • Outdoor Courts: Volleyball Court and Cricket Practice Nets.
  • Aquatics: Professional Swimming Pool.

3. Motivational Session with a Legend

A major highlight of the day was the interaction with Mr. Ranjith Kumar, recipient of the 2020 Dhyan Chand Award for best Paralympic player.

Organization & Leadership

The entire program was meticulously planned and executed under the leadership of Mrs. Mahalakshmi, Head of the Department of Physical Education. Her efforts ensured that students received a comprehensive look at both the commercial side of sports (Decathlon) and the administrative/training side (District Sports Office).
